Back in the day…
I originally published Imaginator Magazine many years ago. I edited and wrote a lot of the material, with other features, top ten lists and reviews supplied by contributors including Bal Croce, Andy Allard, Chas Balun and John Gullidge. Imaginator ran for seven issues, and it covered the movie genres I loved, so horror, sci-fi and fantasy films were reviewed alongside American tough guy action flicks, cult & psychotronic movies, and fight-filled Asian productions.
Interviewees included Ray Harryhausen, John Woo, Joan Collins, Dario Argento, Richard Stanley, Donnie Yen and Cynthia Rothrock.

Then, recently, I decided to revive Imaginator – and I have REALLY enjoyed writing, editing, and designing the new issues! Let’s have a look at these magazines…

FOLK HORROR SPECIAL EDITION

Issue 8 dives into the world of Folk Horror! There are loads of film reviews, plus interviews with very creative people like author Adam Nevill (THE RITUAL) and directors Kier-La Janisse (WOODLANDS DARK AND DAYS BEWITCHED: A HISTORY OF FOLK HORROR) and Sean Hogan (TO FIRE YOU COME AT LAST).

There’s also an article focusing on the various adaptations of M.R. James’s ghost story OH, WHISTLE, AND I’LL COME TO YOU, MY LAD, and a chat with Guy Davis, the concept artist who came up with the look of the Wendigo seen in ANTLERS (2021). I adore this issue’s layout and design!

CREATURE FEATURE SPECIAL EDITION

I have always loved monster movies, so it is no surprise that I decided to make issue 9 a full-on Creature Feature Special Edition!

This magazine boasts interviews with talented monster-makers and creature concept artists, including Steve Wang (PREDATOR), Chris Walas (THE FLY), Ken Barthelmey (GODZILLA VS. KONG), Keith Thompson (NO ONE GETS OUT ALIVE), and John Dods (THE DEADLY SPAWN). Plus interviews with actors such as Veronica Cartwright (ALIEN) and Geretta Geretta (DEMONS). And there’s so much more in this issue!

IMAGINATOR MAGAZINE ISSUE 10

Yikes! This issue contains a mega-huge tribute to GODZILLA movies and a huge SHOGUN ASSASSIN retrospective! The magazine is crammed with tons of colourful images!

Issue 10 also has some guest film reviews from horror author Ramsey Campbell and scriptwriter William Martell.

A batch of mint condition copies of this issue, which was published way back in the very early 90s, was recently discovered! This magazine features interviews with cool directors like Richard Stanley, Dario Argento and John Woo – plus chats with martial arts movie stars such as Donnie Yen, Yukari Oshima & Vincent Lyn!
